Kinematic base for Exact Engineering Tool Probe Mount - Gen II
By adding additional kinematic bases you can share the same tool probe that is mounted to our system to other machines.
To do this you must have a tool probe installed on our Tool Probe Mount and aligned to a machine. Once aligned, demount and re-mount it on another machine that has a kinematic base installed. Then calibrate the XYZ location on the new machine.
In fact, you can put multiple kinematic bases on the same machine and use the probe at different locations, just calibrate the new XYZ location and recall it later. Be sure the kinematic base is installed on a surface that is known to be perpendicular to the machine spindle like the top of a vise or 4th axis. You can even mount the kinematic base mount on a custom pedestal if necessary.
So how is it possible to share tool probes across machines? There are two reasons.
1. The mounting/de-mounting system is kinematic, the location repeatability is better than the 3 microns.
2. Each kinematic base is machined to be identically parallel to the next so there is no measurable parallelism difference between the bases. This is why you only need to align the probe button parallelism once and it will be parallel on a different kinematic base.
